Corroboree 2020 Trip Report
The annual 4WD Queensland Corroboree is an event not to be missed and this year’s 40th anniversary event at Mount Perry, hosted by the Bundaberg 4WD Club, did not disappoint.
Twenty-eight Bayside Off-Roaders Club members and guests made the 385-kilometre journey to Mount Perry. Normally a little town of approximately 385 residents, 4WD clubs from across Queensland made the Mount Perry Showgrounds home from 2–5 October 2020.
Arriving early to set up camp allowed an for extra free day to explore the Bundaberg region with club members using the opportunity to split into two groups with one group visiting the Bundaberg Rum Distillery, Kalki Moon Distilling and Brewing (gin), Ohana Cider House and Tropical Winery and lunch at a local cafe on the Burnett River and the second group taking a scenic dirt road drive to Monto and having lunch at the Albert Hotel. Those that visited the distilleries came away with an impressive haul of alcoholic beverages.
On Saturday and Sunday, club members participated in drives requiring various levels of 4WD experience throughout the local region. Some notable drives discussed around the campfire included the easier Perry’s Perch (a very dusty drive up to the summit of Mount Perry), and Tunnel Turnabouts (a leisurely drive through the Boolboonda Tunnel and historical visit to the old Boolboonda State School).

Offering more of a challenge to our experienced drivers was a drive to Red Mountain, climbing 302 metres from the bottom to stunning views of the ranges from the top. I’m told that the only vehicle recovery at the Corroboree occurred on this drive and it was two members of our very own club putting their skills to the test by being recovered and doing the recovery
The Corroboree extra-long weekend was a great escape, with scenic drives, enjoyable company and excessive dust! The Bundaberg 4WD Club put on a fantastic event for all.
